tonyv Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 The sense of helplessness that overtakes the visitor in the cancer ward pervades this tanka, Goldenlangur. I know the feeling. goldenlangur Posted July 12, 2009 Author Posted July 12, 2009 Hi Tony, You read with sympathy and an understanding of the dilemma of watching someone dear die: The sense of helplessness that overtakes the visitor in the cancer ward.... Sometimes there's just nothing anyone, not even doctors, can do to help. Thank you for the condolence. My uncle would have been 61 this August and he loved a good laugh and still had plans for life. With appreciation. goldenlangur Quote goldenlangur Even a single enemy is too many and a thousand friends too few - Bhutanese saying.

Tinker Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Hi gl, This poem has a desparation to it, the tubes the gripless fingers. You paint images none of us want to see. The title alone almost kept me away. I am a cancer survivor, it has been 15 years but I still don't like to go there in my thoughts. I am sorry such sadness has visited you recently. I am glad you can write about it and share your loss. ~~Tink Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com

goldenlangur Posted July 19, 2009 Author Posted July 19, 2009 Hi Tink, I'm so sorry that this tanka brought back memories of your own experience of cancer. I cannot even imagine how difficult and frightening that must have been for you but I'm touched that you share your experience. The sadness surrounding my uncle's death is not only because he suffered such pain but the regret that perhaps more could have been done if only it had been discovered earlier. With appreciation. goldenlangur Quote goldenlangur Even a single enemy is too many and a thousand friends too few - Bhutanese saying.
