cancer ward

through a web of tubes

our eyes meet

I hold your grip-less fingers

will you to live

For my uncle who died 20th May 2009.

The sense of helplessness that overtakes the visitor in the cancer ward pervades this tanka, Goldenlangur. I know the feeling. Sometimes there's just nothing anyone, not even doctors, can do to help.

With deepest sympathy on your loss,

Tony

Hi Tony,

You read with sympathy and an understanding of the dilemma of watching someone dear die:

The sense of helplessness that overtakes the visitor in the cancer ward.... Sometimes there's just nothing anyone, not even doctors, can do to help.

Thank you for the condolence. My uncle would have been 61 this August and he loved a good laugh and still had plans for life.

With appreciation.

A good tribute in your own way Goldenlangur. Your work was missed. So glad to read you again after some time, even not glad that you have had hard moments in your family so you wrote this poem. I wish you never wrote this one.

My condolence for the lose and my admiration for your perfect tanka eye.

Hi gl, This poem has a desparation to it, the tubes the gripless fingers. You paint images none of us want to see. The title alone almost kept me away. I am a cancer survivor, it has been 15 years but I still don't like to go there in my thoughts. I am sorry such sadness has visited you recently. I am glad you can write about it and share your loss.

Hi Tink,

I'm so sorry that this tanka brought back memories of your own experience of cancer. I cannot even imagine how difficult and frightening that must have been for you but I'm touched that you share your experience.

The sadness surrounding my uncle's death is not only because he suffered such pain but the regret that perhaps more could have been done if only it had been discovered earlier.

With appreciation.
