Father's Eye

"Its like a bubble of sea foam believing its the whole ocean"

-Genpo Roshi

I said goodbye

to myself one day

and met Buddha

coming the other way

On the River of Ghosts

he paddled slow

Bodhisattva ripples

following in his wake

and he said

I am

the other shoe

I know what he means

that phone call

late one night

She's dead

A certified letter

My new husband is adopting

her because of absence

The IRS comes to call

jackbooted for my debt

money spent

on responsibilities

The flashing lights

before first response

all those beers and cigarettes

finally claiming their due

to calm my terror

of that mythic shoe

The tide is high

everywhere

Ancestors and Hungry Ghosts

untying and retying

what appeared to-be

very good knots

a good job

an adequate apartment

all those friends Fathered

when she went away

A Way to be dry

among the fish

and compassionate rocks

boulders of misunderstanding

stirring within the depth

unclaimed parts

waiting to be born

and raised by a Fool

the tidal pull

of one tear

that falls quietly

from a Father's eye

BTW- this is not autobiographical- None of this has happened yet, rather its about the sheer terror of it happening and its resolution;-)

I had a friend freak out, so just wanted to give you all a heads up on the fictional autobiography :icon_sunny:

Many Thanks!

You express life like no one else. I really appreciate:

"all those friends Fathered

when she went away

A Way to be dry

among the fish

and compassionate rocks

boulders of misunderstanding

stirring within the depth

unclaimed parts

waiting to be born

and raised by a Fool

the tidal pull

of one tear

that falls quietly

from a Father's eye"

So much pathos and understanding of human emotion.

Thank you for such an incredible view of the heart.

Dr. Con, I was alarmed when I first read this. I'm relieved that it's not some bad news from your side. Thanks for the engaging write from another's perspective. The tension level is high, and the reader can feel the speaker's anxiety as s/he tries to cope with multiple problems.
