dr_con Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Wanderers We two Hungry Ghosts consult oracles fumes of desire shroud our hearts I haven't talked to my daughter for a month I know he says Mine thinks me dead Where did we acquire these ravenous beaks and their peculiar tastes in the desert or from our Fathers we laugh knowing Feathers tell a great deal about the bird or the angel no matter how long we sit the way moves Is home where we left or where we are heading I say dodging the sight of pain Does it always rain out here What happened to those moments drenched in despair when the smell of herbs and earth brought illumination through even the toughest night sweat and stopped us cold with love That's when we started wandering and admitted we are always home. tonyv Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Easily one of your finest, Dr. Con. From the ravenous beaks with peculiar tastes we gather this profoundly delightful truth: we laugh knowing Feathers tell a great deal about the bird or the angel ... I love how you ask, Does it always rain out here? and how the fumes of desire found at the beginning of the poem contrast with the smell/of herbs and earth toward the end. The reader is left with a realization: That's when we started wandering and admitted we are always home. It seems that, so often, admission is the most difficult hurdle. When consumed by wanderlust for whatever reason may it be, restlessness, desire to escape or to flee, "right here" could very well be the "safest" place to be. Tony PS -- My Lulu order arrived today. Initial cursory observations: your collection is tastefully "packaged" with thought-provoking front and back covers. (I love fountain pens, and there's even a Parker "51" on the front!) The font is elegant and easy to read. The content is plentiful and in your inimitable style. I plan to delight in it this weekend! Aleksandra Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 What a nice opening of a poem you have Juris. You keep a perfect balance all along to the end of the poem, where you are closing with one life paradox: That's when we started wanderingand admitted we are always home. Perfect write DC.
