Smashing Mirrors

let's drink together and grow numb

because our feelings have fallen apart

so

let's abandon them

this pointlessness

i must confess

has made me so weary

of any form of meaninglessness

a persistant precipitation

a reminder of what we can not create

i suppose that's why i get satisfaction

picking up and breaking plates

the destruction feels good to me

it shifts the resonance of this awkwardness

with shattering sounds that free me

completely

right now you are a threat

you symbolize

my possible demise

you

once so pure and so clean

now contaminated by vitriol

i reel in this destructive space

and i smash the mirrors too

stop holding them up in front of me

i no longer wish to see what is reflected

haunting promises that can not be kept

let me go

and in letting go set me free from this

your Judas kiss

the impulse of abandonment is something i understand

so just turn and walk away

it's easy to do

and remember to let go of my hand.

To receive love, you have to give it...

Somehow, this one's close to home, Douglas.

let's drink together and grow numb

because our feelings have fallen apart

so

let's abandon them

this pointlessness ...

i must confess

a persistant precipitation

a reminder of what we can not create ...

so just turn and walk away

it's easy to do

and remember to let go of my hand ...

I think realizations like these also would lead me to no "longer wish to see what is reflected."

i suppose that's why i get satisfaction

picking up and breaking plates

the destruction feels good to me

it shifts the resonance of this awkwardness

with shattering sounds that free me

completely ...

I'll have to try that!

" your Judas kiss "

I like it. This is another good poem Douglas. It has the balance which I like a lot.

Thank you for sharing.
