Wistful Poet Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 He comes when women hit, forty andfifty, stealing away their youth and beauty during the night. He caresses their cheek, taking woman's beauty in a long strokes, replacing it with lines and wrinkles with his left hand. He gives it to the young women, while the old beauties grow old. goldenlangur Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Hi WP, In a time when aging is seen as something to be dreaded and something negative, your poem has a certain resonance. Physical appearance deteriorate over time but other qualities come to the fore - hopefully goldenlangur Quote goldenlangur Even a single enemy is too many and a thousand friends too few - Bhutanese saying.
tonyv Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Hey Wistful, Nice to see you! I like you have taken on a challenging theme and handled it with skill (especially sensitively) in this poem: He comes when women hit, forty andfifty, stealing away their youth and beauty during the night. He caresses their cheek, taking woman's beauty in a long strokes, replacing it with lines and wrinkles with his left hand. He gives it to the young women, while the old beauties grow old. Very thought-provoking! Tony Quote Here is a link to an index of my works on this site: tonyv's Member Archive topic
