Wishful Thinking

A wish so like a fish

It flits off with a swish

No matter how it's willed

The catch oft unfulfilled

Of fish à la your angling

Rod ever hopeful dangling

Our wishes for the best

Will face the fishing test

Right now an empty net

Re-wish and yet and yet

A metrical endeavor in iambic trimeter, Frank??? Delightful. :) The choice of form and meter, together with the slippery, elusive fish metaphor adequately captures the sentiment of wishful thinking.

Neat. Lines 3 and 4 make an 'epigram' worth while keeping on its own, a crystallization of the whole.

Hello Frank. This is a delightfully philosophical short poem, the optimism which comes across in the last line is most apt. G. :icon_sunny:

Cheers Tony Wax Tink and Geoff, a fun write, glad you saw something worthwhile in it.

Who's poor Rod? No, only joking ... terse, whimsical, reflective: in short, The Compleat Angler. Nice one, Frank!
