Frank E Gibbard Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Words Worth Meaning "I wandered lonely as a ..." (mm) now let me ponder, A mot juste to tail my line I cogitated is surely yonder. Just then a door-knock sharply cracked my deliberation. "Wordy, old boy." It was that nuisance Coleridge - "Botheration!" "What's up Willie?" "The vaulting sky," quipped I, seeking an edge. "Any words worth two with you, tee hee," said he, jocularly. "Oh very punny," said I, "Coley, you minor poet Coal, m.i.n.e.r, similarly. "I'm writing and stuck for a word actually, yea verily, and a subject." "Do tell my good fellow thy effort - let me help if I may, if you do not object." He listened intent. "An oxymoron's what you need, I say: a crowd. A ready rhyme I will throw you right for matching pray: a cloud. Also a title appertaining flora to please your readers if allowed." Thus, as fate would let it, it should come to pass Thanks to a nick from Coleridge that pompous ass My unappreciated ode: "Cabbages" came out alas And I William Wordsworth was viewed a total arse. David W. Parsley Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Frank, I was too busy laughing to reply the first time I read it. Brings to mind Coleridge's "Kubla Khan," when the narrator claims to have lost the thread of his inspiration due to the interruption of a visitor. Sam's longtime sidekick seems to be turning the wordy tables on him here, with hilarious consequence. Much enjoyed - Dave Quote
