The Return of Little Miss Morimoto

You will be overjoyed to hear that Little Miss Morimoto, the subject of a former poem recorded in these pages some weeks ago, has made contact again! Apparently she has not rejected me completely. She seems to want to do it in stages instead. Stunningly beautiful girls like this don't come along very often ... they simply don't ... so it's too good not to play along. I feel like I'm in a movie, like, "Der Blaue Engel". http://en.wikipedia..../The_Blue_Angel

<Hello, hello, how are you?>

I have to see you, look into your eyes.

This is the only way we can really communicate.

Mail is OK, I suppose.

Good morning!

Every morning, now you do it.

That's nice. I like it!

It's better than なにもない .

But I need to see you.

I want to sit beside you.

I want to look at you.

I want to sort of gaze at you.

Who is this ... unbelievable girl???

子猫ちゃん ... no, never that simple!

Who are you?? I don't really know.

I am learning. I hope you are learning too.

I don't think you really care.

Cool dark eyes,

young, deep, and expressionless.

This is not love.

It is something different.

Of course I will protect you.

Any man would do the same

for any woman, even if he hates her.

We have to, it's DNA, training, masculinity, etc.

but for you it would be a pleasure!

I would love to rescue you from dragons,

from evil villains, from your teachers,

maybe even from your whole society!

But, no, I cannot do that. I cannot.

And I should not do so either.

You will disappear, Miss Morimoto,

like most young Japanese women

into loveless marriage with a demanding husband.

All your heart and thoughts and intelligence

will be thrown into your young children

(listen, dear gods, please give me children!!)

and they will love you for a short time,

and, by and by, they will leave you.

Then you won't know what to do.

You will join associations, 何でも会,

You will grow flowers and plants.

Once, for no reason, you might think ...

whatever happened to that Irish guy?

He has gone over with the wind and the waves,

he has gone home to the Land of his Fathers.

Oh, is that so? Brendan liked his pint of Guinness.

I bought him a couple at the Smugglers Bar,

and, as I recall, it was a mite expensive.

Dead? Oh, dear. Such a nice man in his way.

He was in love with me, you know.

I liked him well enough, and I loved to listen

to his wild untrammelled talk, his Japanese

was exceptionally good -- well, for a Gaijin.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

1. なにもない - Na-ni-mo-nai: nothing, this (thing) has no meaning.

2. 子猫ちゃん - Ko-neko-chan: sweet kitten, idiotically affectionate address.

3. 何でも会 - "Whatsoever" associations or groups.

4. Gaijin 外人 - outside person, lit. foreigner. Sometimes abusive.

Drown your sorrows in drink, by all means, but the real sorrows can swim

always enjoy reading your writings amigo. ka pos'e ce' eh? anyway it is always great to see another man write a poem or love letter bout a female that tickles his fancy. many well all of my poems are centered on these five females (Elizabeth, Joyce, Chrissy, Nalene, Marianna). this is so awesomely written. much enjoyed.

A touch of romance in this one, Brendan. Yes,

This is not love.

It is something different.

Still, it's something. And the part about the ale made me smile. She bought, and recalled that "it was a mite expensive," lol.

PS -- I looked for a way to enable the Japanese characters, but couldn't. Even so, I could imagine them. They're a nice touch.

PPS -- The referenced movie looks intriguing. I'll check it out. Thanks!
