Tinker Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Deprived Slogging up through the muck weighted by wet earth and bog slime my eyes dart behind leaden lids seeking answers to vanquish the images that clog my thoughts and hold sleep hostage.---------------------- ---jvg Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
tonyv Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Ah, Tinker, I hope everything is ok. In my experience, sleeplessness (like writer's block) can be the result of worry -- the images that clog my thoughts. Usually I can't get to sleep in this condition. Perhaps the narrator does sleep, but the sleep is not satisfying, because she is plagued by nightmares? Tony Quote Here is a link to an index of my works on this site: tonyv's Member Archive topic
Tinker Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 I'm fine Tony but I haven't been a good sleeper for many years. I thought I was good with 4 to 5 hours and programed myself to get up and do something once I wake. And you are right, stresses of the day seem to need ironing out at 3am. But that can just become habit not really anything wrong. I am on a mission, I am committed to get more sleep. My doctor says that lack of sleep is what is making me fat. So I am on a new diet of 8 hours sleep each night... I expect to lose 10 pounds by next month . ~~Tink Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com

goldenlangur Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Hi Tink, It's been a while since I've read your work and this has been worthwhile waiting for! Vivid imageries makes palpable your torturous struggle to sleep. One feels you've weighed each word for impact and how effortlessly (unlike sleep!) the poem flows. Particularly love these lines: Tinker wrote: ... weighted by wet earth and bog slime my eyes dart behind leaden lids .... ---jvg "sleep" held hostage has a certain resonance. As a fellow sleep "deprived" sufferer, your poem certainly spoke to me. goldenlangur Quote goldenlangur Even a single enemy is too many and a thousand friends too few - Bhutanese saying.
