fdelano Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Well-fitted stone fence, natural, rearranged landscape, tight against foothills and shoulders of the road. Standing chimneys of ancient fallen cabins, still waiting for a cooking fire and comfort from the cold. Plowed acres in straight rows following the roll of the land, ready for grains of corn saved from last year’s crop. Dammed up stream with hard-earned, gnawed sticks forming a watery cave to hold new-born babes with paddles. Nests in thorn bushes woven bit by bit with stems flown quickly, dabbed with saliva and bits of clay. A firm hand to guide one wayward child whose awkward steps cause falls and tears, even laughter, when all is well. Quote

Benjamin Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 There's a lot going on here that seems to uphold the established, yet embraces the past.. and at the same time celebrates a new season of life. I like the imagery and in particularly how your last stanza completes the circle. G. Quote
Frank E Gibbard Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Great bits of naturalisms. I sensed beavers fd. Quote
Tinker Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Hi Frank, This is a pleasant surprise, I usually expect something darker from you. This poem embraces life, old and new. I liked this stroll into nature. It was easy reading, a refreshing treat. ~~Tink Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
tonyv Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Lovely work, Franklin. The setting and voice are distinctly American. ... Plowed acres in straight rows following the roll of the land, ready for grains of corn saved from last year’s crop ... Perhaps this corn, not yet planted, is destined to become bourbon? fdelano Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 More likely ethanol, but Bourbon would definitely be preferred. Thanks to all who commented. It's great to read how others interpret. Quote
