Tinker Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Sunshine for Breakfast He’d wake me by putting his sunshine face within a breath of mine and saying, ”Mom, dinner please.” he hadn’t yet mastered the word “breakfast”. His shiny face with those round brown eyes that sparkled promise will remain fresh in my mind beyond my end. It was only a few short moments before it matured into the strong face of a man fulfilling those promises. But it’s the memory of that tiny face that makes my heart leap out of my breast and twist inside out. It was from that face I discovered how steel-strong love can be. ~~Judi Van Gorder Here he is with his Dad riding color guard for the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department in the Apple Blossom Parade 1973 Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
Frank E Gibbard Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Beautifully done Tink, I note you have been doing much of such self/reflective pieces lately and understandably thinking back on a major constituant of your life journey. A mother recalls on the bond and lightening bolt of time's swift progression; sweetly done; Quote
Tinker Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 Thanks Frank, Yesterday was my son's birthday, born on Mother's Day... no greater gift. I'm headed south this morning to visit for a week so the poems will probably stop for a while, I'll be too busy with family... keep the forums going. I'll catch up when I get back. ~~Tink Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
dcmarti1 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Touching. Not being a parent, I still loved this line: he hadn’t yet mastered the word “breakfast”. Cute. Quote
moonqueen Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I have no children, either, by choice. But this is sweet and loving and I immediately thought of a time my four year old niece spent the night with me, in my bed. It brought back a pleasant awakening by a child memory for me, as well. Quote
Benjamin Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Lovely poem Tink: I never thought my heart would twist out of my breast that way again.... until the grandkids came along. B Quote
Gatekeeper Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Nicely reminisced. A super-glued image I am sure. Quote from the black desert
