A nephew not by blood

Back from Beloit,
your email did not say, “I am now in Petworth.”
nor did it say, “I took the Dulles bus
and then a cab to your condo.”
You wrote, instead, "I'm home.”
I cried at work.

The hail is here.
It is Sunday and I'll just be working while you
leave Prague for Palestine to continue
your life so damn far from the weir.
You'll bless those you live with;
they will cry, too.

How lovely and moving --

... You wrote, instead, 'I'm home.”
I cried at work.

... and I'll just be working while you
... bless those you live with;
they will cry, too.

-- all of it, not just the part I quoted. Love the sense of place(s) and time ... and "home."

Thanks, Tony. Yes, I had to rent out my spare bedroom for finances and I ended up getting a virtual "nephew". His parents and I also are keeping in touch.
