hogan

in the field

tilts the charred carcass

of a years ago

lightning strike,

deciduous no more.

nearby lies

the blowfly infested body

of the neighbor’s

missing ‘ghost’ dog;

no apparent cause,

he doubtless died alone.

every lightning storm

reminds me.

and i don’t like it.

Stunning metaphor of life and death--not a wasted syllable. Perfect title. Your work does inspire me to keep trying. Just excellent.

MQ, this spare piece may be my favorite of your works to date. Quite vivid, worms down into where the reader lives.

Excellent!
