Benjamin Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 A single punishment for every crime's impractical, in many ways absurd. But wouldn't it be nice to have the time to cull abusers of a single word. For countless times a day I hear that word and wonder it has meaning.. after all the wild ambiguations, noun and verb, from oral.. to graffiti on a wall. But human nature being what it is: from all four corners of a shrinking world, it propagates copious quantities through song and speech and book, until, I'm smothered by four letters in a shroud of metaphor, for thinking out aloud. Benjamin Posted January 23, 2014 Author Posted January 23, 2014 A folklore story of Draco's death, has it that: In a traditional ancient Greek show of approval while in the Aeginetan theatre; his enthusiastic supporters "threw so many hats and shirts and cloaks on his head that he suffocated, and was buried in that same theatre." dcmarti1 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Ahhhhh..... and wonder it has meaning.. after all the wild ambiguations, noun and verb, And is "that" word what I "think" it is? ;) Or am I just way off base? Culling would be a BIT harsh, but liked the use of poetic license. I thought it was a fun piece. Quote
Benjamin Posted January 23, 2014 Author Posted January 23, 2014 Well it could be L-O-V-E. But there's enough leeway for it to swing both ways a light hearted write! Quote
dr_con Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Made me smile, and simply fun, fun, fun! Very cleverly done, and the bit of folklore was just delightful! Juris Quote thegateless.org
tonyv Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Well, you don't actually say the word. I guess we can let that whole content warning thing slide this time. Very nice work with the sonnet. It has been said that excessive (or any) use of profanity is evidence of a less educated person's inability to articulate his thoughts. As your poem suggests, it's unusual and noticeable when one does not resort to a commonplace. A clever allusion at the end. Thanks for the footnote on it. I would not have gotten it.
