Benjamin
Hey Granddad! Will you be fit to run when you get your robot knee next month? Shed your stick and kick a football around with me? Or watch me practise at taekwondo? You know that dad's not here anymore?
dcmarti1
The last sentence is striking. It is saying a lot, but indirectly.....I think. I like how the initial questions are asked so excitedly.
dr_con
A short simple piece with quite a kick! Reminds me of some of the poems I would see in Analog back in the day- although the future is now so although speculative its probably happening @ this moment! tonyv
Yes, we don't know why the dad's not there. Was he lost in a recent war or did the marital relationship suffer a meltdown? It's probably the latter, but I like how that part is not entirely clear. Benjamin
Just my world- weary sigh and a short diary poem to highlight how sad circumstances of one relationship can impact on another. G.
fdelano
Don't know why, but I read this as the boy carrying on an internal dialogue. I think children often do this, hesitant to vocalize their thoughts to adults. The last sentence seems to suggest senility. I like that you make us wonder.
