douglas Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Glances I am easily distracted By my automatic surveyor-thing That lock-on mechanism inside me It detects smooth red lips And artistic finger tips Handsome jaws Thighs in tight jeans Those kinds of things Statuesque shoulders Ruffled strands of hair The faint scent of sensuality Wisping through the air Stubble Casual looks Round gold glasses Poetry books Smiles directed at me Deep set eyes spying lustfully Brief love affairs In the streets On the trains Electric glances Whilst running through The city's rains. dcmarti1 Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Much is contained in a glance! ;) In the streets On the trains Electric glances That part is so easily translatable: gay, straight, bi.....just human. The poem reminds me of the James Blunt song "You're Beautiful". Wistful, haunting, both pieces. Quote
Benjamin Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Vibrant, relevant and above all most human. Particularly liked, "That lock-on mechanism inside me." B. Quote
dr_con Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I once had a criticism of my use of the word 'thing' in a poem - ever since I've looked for solid examples of using that word well: And you do! So for that a thanks. As to the rest I agree wholeheartedly: A lustful, romantic beautiful piece about human nature. Very much enjoyed (and although you never used the descriptor 'Spring,' that is the season I place this poem in, for me anyhow, the almost uncontrollable desire to look and to imagine;-) Juris Quote thegateless.org
douglas Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Thank you all so much for your feedback. Juris - it was actually Winter in London running around the streets and the tube stations - but you are more than welcome to associate and interpret it within your own imagination of course - that is what poetry is all about, after all!
