Smashing Mirrors

let's drink together and grow numb
because our feelings have fallen apart

let's abandon them

this pointlessness
i must confess
has made me so weary
of any form of meaning

a persistent precipitation
a reminder of what we cannot create

i suppose that's why i get satisfaction
picking up and breaking plates
the destruction feels good to me
it shifts the resonance of this awkwardness
with shattering sounds that free me

right now you are a threat
you symbolize
my possible demise

once so pure and so clean
now contaminated by vitriol

i reel in this destructive space
and i smash the mirrors too
stop holding them up in front of me
i no longer wish to see what is reflected

haunting promises that cannot be kept
let me go
and in letting go set me free from this

your Judas kiss

the impulse of abandonment is something i understand
so just turn and walk away
it's easy to do
and that will free me to walk away too…

To receive love, you have to give it...

.....a reminder of what we cannot create.....

Boy, THAT line really hit home! Been there.

MY reading --and I most certainly can be wrong-- saw the gamut of actions from impulsive (breaking plates) to coldly practical (just walking away), and I believe this must have been written at a time of great emotion.

Only the lower case "i", e.e. cummings style, threw me off. ;)

Raw, emotive and paces the drunken emotional brawl pitch perfectly. From disillusion to acting out to the 'realism' that comes out of the burst. Well done.
