fdelano Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Muscle Memory Oh to feel again rush of frigid water as I lift braided wet silk slowly back to two then fast forward to ten watching swinging arc carrying invisible tippet with clinched fly to rising bulge below riffles with flicking fins of feeding bass balanced forward-facing in main channel of fast-food line. tonyv Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Fly fishing, Franklin? Pardon me if one doesn't fly fish for bass -- I know nothing about the subject -- but the description of how the line is cast makes me remember what I've see of it. Good title. You've packed a lot into this short piece. Tony Quote Here is a link to an index of my works on this site: tonyv's Member Archive topic
fdelano Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 Thanks, Tony. If you were ever to hook a 4 lb. smallmouth with a bamboo rod in fast water, you might be in danger of heart failure. Smallmouth make trout seem weak. Quote
Benjamin Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Throughout history and from Hemingway to Ewan MacColl's song "Shoals Of Herring"; the pursuit of fish has been inextricably linked to the human spirit.Your title is good: the enthusiasm and movement uplifting. Was that a military "Contact!" I felt? Quote
fdelano Posted October 8, 2014 Author Posted October 8, 2014 All the best of Hemingway involved fish. There has to be a genetic component to humans' fascination with fishing. I have yet to see a kid that's not thrilled with that first catch. I have given bamboo fly rods to all my children and now working on g-kids. Fly fishing in the Shenandoah is for bluegills or smallmouth. The best bait for bass is a hellgrammite, natural or fly. Becoming a part of nature is a universal curative for being down. Thanks, Geoff. I guess the "Contact" just popped out of my mechanical background. ;) Quote

fdelano Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 I once read a survey that claimed there are no incarcerated felons whose fathers took them fishing. I hope it's true. Quote
dr_con Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Love this! My brother has become the 'family' fisherman and has finally broken down and begun fly fishing for steelhead, his first hook up to a giant hen, might put the bass thrill to shame! ;-) I went fishing with my dad and grandfather, but now have the fondest memories of 2 boys out on a boat, fishing and laughing our a$$es off;-) I love this piece!
