F.A. cup final 2014

In dreams with eyes open Bruce measures Wenger's

sinuous claws. On match day Steve makes the crowd

an incantation revealing hunger

of fires camouflaged. Arsene spots the shroud

that uncovers the tiger's eye taming

Arsenal's anxious beauty. Fans ride this

tiger with pride, players glide, unresting,

the referee disallows offside, bliss

for the gunners. Half time ruminations

in living rooms, streets rationed, empty of

people. A manager with precision

alters formation. This tiger is tough

but will not drink from a silver cup-only

from history's waterfall washing over Hull city.

Nice one Barry. 2014 was an exceptional year for the Tigers. They are struggling to maintain good enough form to keep them in the Premier League at the moment though.... Hope the axe doesn't fall on Steve Bruce after all his hard work and commitment in keeping City up with the 'big boys'. No sentiment in business however.... so they say. G .

Barry, I think this is one of your best. I don't follow sports, but I can feel this, not just the match itself, but the excitement of game day:

Perfect. Lovely, even.

No much of a sports fan either (But a huge fan of movies who central theme is sports --- modern-day myths, possibly) except it was fun to go shopping during the Superbowl to empty stores. I agree with Tony completely, the poet's perspective on a shared ecstatic experience is delightfully done. The explicit mythologizing of the event reveals the implicit group mind, beautifully.

Well Done!
