douglas
as my eyes closed I was at your funeralwhere there were roses fallingthrough rainbeneath watery air black umbrellas bloomedlike sordid flowerssown from the opposite bank of the dark and eternal riverwhich flows beside the pathwayof each lifeand as the cold windgrabbed my wrists in a painful clutchI remembered your faceand how warm your eyesused to beI remembered how they wouldwatch me drinking red winefrom across rooms filledwith motion and laughterI remembered how they wouldsecretly draw me inand possess menow I was watchingas they lowered you gently into the groundbeing mindful not to jar or hurt you as they did soa tender acquiescence that I found beautiful and terrifyingacross the cemeteryI noticed the deep, quiet greenof old fir trees against the purplewash of low cloudsa water painting through the drizzleand then I was alone with youand the spattering of rain dropsupon fallen leavesthe white marble angels and virginsaround us seemed to stir suddenlyas I scattered red petalsinto the earthpetals as red as the winewe would drink together again one dayin roomsfilled with warmth and happinessand laughter Quote To receive love, you have to give it... dcmarti1
old fir trees against the purplewash of low cloudsa water painting through the drizzle .....So reminded me of the high imagery in Ezra Pound's "In a station of the metro", but of course, THIS situation is specifically sad. The emotion clearly comes through in the rest of it.
Benjamin
Lots of excellent lines and evocative imagery. I particularly liked: "I remembered your face/ and how warm your eyes/ used to be" also "and then I was alone with you/ and the spattering of raindrops/ upon fallen leaves" Much enjoyed.
