The Music Stand

I have not moved the music stand.
It remains where he placed it;

Put down in the position that
He chose.

Each time I look at it I am reminded
Of our afternoon together.
Seeing it comforts me,

Because it was his vision
That caused it to
Come to rest,
Right there,
In a corner of my bedroom.

As a consequence, it seems to have
Taken on an aspect of his persona.
Inadvertently, he has left a piece
Of his energy there for me to remember him by.

And I don’t really care how casually he may
Have moved it.
What’s important is what that gesture
Means to me.

To receive love, you have to give it...
