What can I say to evoke a response from you?
Your turning head, closed lids, and sealed lips
Berate my speaking.

The languid arrogance of your sighs;
Cruel breath meant to bring on death.

I remember the beginning –
Excitement, rushing blood, anticipation, tongues,
Hot kisses on warm nights;
Secret sharing.

Now we are strangers again.
Stranger than strangers.
Polarised,
Divergent,
Sumptuously inflicting cruelty
Upon each other.

We sit in silence,
Wringing the necks of our affections,
Two masochists
Too afraid to fall in love.

To receive love, you have to give it...
