cherubs

Recommended Posts

cold winter solstice shadows roam

amongst the muted sentinels

of shriven trees and icicles

within a world of monochrome

and cherubs in their pre-fab class

sing carols for a new-born boy

release on air a childish joy

that warms the mist and frozen grass

makes frosty tears melt in my eyes

and wish all woes and worldly pains

could be absorbed in their refrains

where innocence and goodness lies

then like a virus be set free

to flood the world with harmony

Uplifting, per badger, is 100% correct.

Very nicely done! And indeed a poem which uses 'Shriven' correctly, makes me smile with glee, even before the uplifting Harmony! ;-)

Nice!

Hi Geoff, I like this four-foot sonnet. It suits the holiday and the event with that shortened step. Nice use of irony without losing the sincere sense of hope.

Thanks,

- Dave

Uplifting, hopeful -- that's my takeaway, too. The poem itself has the musicality of a carol, and everything fits from content to form. When I read this I am transported somewhere I have never been, almost like living in (while also benefiting from) a renaissance.
