JoelJosol Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 It's never been clear to me how close we could have been, no matter how many times I rise up at dawn to engage you in the light. I walk just close by everywhere you try to reach me, pushing little rocks out of the way, and teasing me with your splash. We never had any conversations, just quiet promenades until the sun was golden in your skin, in my eyes until they hurt- That's when I knew I had my fill of you, just like before, our days. *** I got sick over the holiday period. Now, I am back, sort of. Quote "Words are not things, and yet they are not non-things either." - Ann Lauterbach
tonyv Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I'm excited that you're back, Joel. Do recover quickly and fully. There are some terrific expressions in this piece. Engage you in the light, teasing me with your splash -- I can sense the narrator's blighted hope all the way till the end: That's when I knew I had my fill of you, just like before, our days. The title elicits nostalgia. I, myself, would characterize this poem as a contemporary sonnet. Tony Quote Here is a link to an index of my works on this site: tonyv's Member Archive topic
Aleksandra Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Wonderful expressed poem. I like the melancholy in this poem Joel, and the expressions which gives some silent tone, and in some way - anxious. Well written poem. Aleksandra Quote The poet is a liar who always speaks the truth - Jean Cocteau History of Macedonia
JoelJosol Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 Thank you, Tony and Alek. The cold is subsiding. The cough is clearing as well. The heaviness is gone. I just need now little more time to get fully charged Tony, I didn't realize I wrote it in sonnet form with a matching couplet in the end :-) Quote "Words are not things, and yet they are not non-things either." - Ann Lauterbach
