Frank E Gibbard Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Writer Harold Pinter, a sublime caretaker Of language exited the stage he graced. No more birthday parties ... time for a wake For this master of speech and due silences. ... ... In sympathy, to be Pinteresque, I should end soon. Cut the blather. Curtain and silence falls. (for a great Briton) For reference 2 of Pinter's plays were The Caretaker and The Birthday Party. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. The term Pinteresque was coined for his sparse style of dialogue. Quote
goldenlangur Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Hello Frank, Very well put: Cut the blather. Curtain and silence falls. Your poem chimes well with the recent tribute to Pinter in the World Service News. goldenlangur Quote goldenlangur Even a single enemy is too many and a thousand friends too few - Bhutanese saying.
Aleksandra Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Nice dedicated poem, Frank. These lines are powerful and moving: No more birthday parties ... time for a wake For this master of speech and due silences. Well done. tonyv Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I'm not familiar with the writer (thanks for the footnote!), but I think your poem epitomizes him well: No more birthday parties ... time for a wake ... How Pinteresque! Tony Quote Here is a link to an index of my works on this site: tonyv's Member Archive topic
