Tinker Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Trey He lay, his head on my lap, his pained blue eyes begged, I stay. I stroked his fur, calmly spoke while he closed his tired eyes and slipped away The moan came from deep within First I didn't recognize the soulful sound came from me. Then sobs wrenched my chest and tears poured from my eyes. ~~Judi Van Gorder Prompt: Write an Endecha Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com

JoelJosol Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 I can relate to this "closed his tired eyes and slipped away" versus the "moan came from deep within". I already lost so many pets in my short and woeful life. Quote "Words are not things, and yet they are not non-things either." - Ann Lauterbach
Tinker Posted March 24, 2018 Author Posted March 24, 2018 Thanks Badge and Joel, This was a few years ago, I have since lost Trey's sister, Daisy last year, but it was Trey who I had to have put down. I have grieved for loss of many pets over my lifetime but for some reason, making that terrible decision to let Trey go and then being with him until his last breath literally broke the damn. I'm not normally one to sob but I just couldn't stop. The challenge was to write an Endecha, " The Canción triste que encierra un lamento", ("sad song that locks up a moan"). This is a 16th century Spanish form, syllables 7-7-7-11 rhyme xaxa xbxb etc. I touched on a real moment, a real emotion but dramatizing for the assignment. ~~Tink Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
