 Forgotten

The old house
sits back from the road,
a weathered white porch
           sags, a broken rail
propped to the side.
An ancient oak ominously
           leans over the patched,
                      curled roof.
A shattered side window
repaired with cardboard
           and duck tape
suggests a previous
break in.
Concealed within,
          a lone flicker of light.

I think this is great Tink. Thoroughly enjoyed. The detail of duck tape makes the poem that more authentic.

Thanks Badge.    Haha, I had to look up "duck" tape.  I wasn't sure duct or duck but it was duck.... That grey wide tape is what I had in my head.  I probably will play with this a little.  I keep getting flashes of images I left out.  I don't want to drag it out but the loneliness I felt this morning while writing this has haunted me all day.  It's getting close to a time when I can go out with friends to a movie and dinner and have fun.  Happy Halloween!

I love this. Perfect for the season and the image and the construction... Excellent work. Thanks!

The lone flicker of light has me wondering ... A reclusive inhabitant? A transient? I presupposed this was about an abandoned property. I wasn't expecting the inclusion of a human element and was pleased to find it.
