Tinker Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 Warning A high pitched, steady, beep - beep - beep and the guttural growl of a grinding engine greeted my morning garden stroll. My view of the road blocked by flowering potato vines, I couldn't see the monster as it inched down our country road. I don't know what or why it chose to invade the post-dawn peace but gratefully, the tocsin sounds soon faded and only the welcoming tweets of small birds graced my space once more. ~~ Judi Van GorderNotes: ▼ Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
badger11 Posted September 15, 2019 Posted September 15, 2019 Have you posted a similar circumstance/poem to this one previously Tink? It felt familiar, but then this could be because I relate to outside/inside worlds. Either way I enjoyed the poem. In particular how the intrusive and relaxing qualities of sound create worlds. all the best Phil Quote
Tinker Posted September 15, 2019 Author Posted September 15, 2019 Hi Badge, I write about my mornings in the garden often but the morning of this particular event came on the heels of reading a prompt to write a poem using onomatopoeia. I have no idea what the machine was that I heard but it I heard it and it gave me the perfect sound and subject to work with. The words started forming in my head before I came inside to write them down. I think most of my poems build on what I've written before. Seeing and hearing similar or same images in different moods, shades, seasons, objectives or level of enlightenment is what I write. I'm pretty much a "you get what I see or hear or feel" kind of writer. I don't have the mystery or metaphoric insight and talent that you and others have. ~~Tink Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
tonyv Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 It "sounds" like some large truck or tractor backing up. You never did learn what it was?!? I love onomatopoeia. Good usage. But what happened to the scary, Halloween poem? I showed up here finally hoping to re-read and reply, but now I can't find it!!!
