Tinker Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Here is my Polly Anna version of projacking The Pasture by Robert Frost. Where Tony's, The Coast, used the poem as an inspiration of tightness and invitation, I copied the frame, adding a 3rd quatrain. I also tried to stick closer to Frost's invitation, to see the extraordinary in the ordinary, best enjoyed when shared. And it is the season. That Time of the Year I want to go and see the Christmas lights, the season's colors, red and green and whiteso bright and festive, a joyful sight at night. It will be fun, so come with me.There will be Carollers just down the streetlet's join to raise our voices, you and me,it doesn't matter if we sing off-key,It will be fun, so come with me.And maybe we could visit old St Nick. We'll check his list to see if we can helpto spread the cheer. We can play his elf.It will be fun, please come with me. ~~Judi Van GorderNotes: ▼ The Pasture I'm going out to clean the pasture spring; I'll only stop to rake the leaves away (And wait to watch the water clear, I may): I sha'n't be gone long.—You come too. I'm going out to fetch the little calf That's standing by the mother. It's so young, It totters when she licks it with her tongue. I sha'n't be gone long.—You come too. ~~Robert Frost Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
tonyv Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Judi, this is nice, but it's not fair to imply that The Coast is lacking when it comes to invitation; I do say, "start the car let's go" in the ultimate line. That's an invitation. Okay, we'll go for that ride to check out Christmas lights in hometown neighborhoods. We'll even stop the car and walk, but it better be cold out! Tinker Posted December 22, 2019 Author Posted December 22, 2019 Tony, I never meant to suggest The Coast was lacking anything. I guess what i should have said was, while The Coast was inspired by the tightness and invitation of Frost’s The Pasture, my That Time of Year tried to exactly replicate the frame and theme with a little more Polly Anna thrown in. They each come from a different perspective and I don’t believe there is any way to compare them other than by a starting point in Frost’s poem. ~~Judi Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
tonyv Posted December 22, 2019 Posted December 22, 2019 Judi, you out there? Give me a call if you have a chance. I wiped my phone by accident about a year ago. Lost 300 contacts. Only got about 100 back so far ... Tony Quote Here is a link to an index of my works on this site: tonyv's Member Archive topic
