Freshly fake flowers

Stood as silent sentinels

In cracked cinder block.

Short, sweet and perfectly matched to the title- NIce Work!

An unexpected haiku! There is a time and place for "freshly fake." Strangely, these flowers seem welcome. Good to see you, Marti.

Even though I have never read it, the title is a blatant steal from "Love in the Time of Cholera".

Marti,  This is just so real an image that conjures so many others.  Stark imagery.  You haven't lost your touch.

Hi Marti, I like this haiku and have read it several times.  I have been reluctant to comment, but would it be okay to revisit "sentinels"?  I see the flowers more as a contingency to retain a sense of past and promised beauty, the anticipation of returning life in the midst of punishing pandemic.  They do not feel like agents of watch and warning to me.  Yes, they are "fake" and "fresh" introductions rooted in expediency, but they are present and engaged.

One Fan's Thought,
- David
