dr_con
Bar Conversation "Suffering ain't work or all of us would be paid for just liv'n "- Unknown You know what the secret of a Good drink is? Like that story Creeley used to tell, about a guy who stole his scotch, it was his regular dive, before Rexroth tossed him out and he was bored, and just wanting the lizard-on a-rock. quiet he deserved after a day set- by, for poetry and sex and power-this guy steals his drink and he's drunk and warm and looking to-put his skin-on display for tattooing and he hauls-back all righteous and ready and the bartender leans over grabs 'em both and declares, "Robert this is Jackson", Pollock and Creeley and they both had a good laugh about that, see they recognized each other, but that ain't a Good drink that's a ladder climbing, figure-out who you are here, a Good drink is when you wake up a different person than the one who went to bed always two drinks from me, the nothing the unknowing the fall from grace running away from or too doesn't matter, just this bar and the pickled eggs both Sulfur and Manna the emptiness is the same it's up to you the side and the nature of that bed you woke up-on. tonyv
An excellent embodiment of artists into a work of art that inspires camaraderie among contemporaries, Dr Con. I love this part: ... a Good drink is when you wake up a different person than the one who went to bed always two drinks from me, the nothing the unknowing the fall from grace running away from or too doesn't matter, just this bar and the pickled eggs both Sulfur and Manna the emptiness is the same it's up to you the side and the nature of that bed you woke up-on. It's somehow like a synthesis out of which a new and higher level of truth has come to light. dr_con
Many Thanks Tony! I was worried it wouldn't translate well, being a spontaneous "Folksy" explosion based on weeks of composting certain idea- was concerned that it wouldn't translate to the reader- Thanks for putting my woories aside;-) Dr. Con Quote thegateless.org

Aleksandra
I like what Tony has to say on this poem Dr.Con. His comment helped me a lot and I feel the sense of the poem - much more. I like the poem. It's one of those hard for writing and hard for reading. Nice done. Thanks for sharing. rhymeguy
Afternoon Good Dr, As usual I am not quite sure if this work is literal or metaphorical. I have decided to take it literally. Again, as usual, your work must be read slowly with a studied eye to be absorbed fully. Again, as usual, it is worth the study. I have met many a man in the same way and awakened on both sides of the bed. Sometimes better; sometime not so much; sometime without change. I have invested 10 years of my life with a man met in much the same way. A good investment as I awaken each day better for having fallen asleep in the right bed. This may not be the path your were following but it is the path I took. Thanks for leading me there. rg
dr_con
I'm glad you took it as literal and as personal- Your critique was wondrous, and congrats @ finally stumbling through the 'right door' RG! ;-) DC Quote thegateless.org
Tinker
Hi DC, I really enjoyed reading this. It has an easy bantering feel about it and yet there is a tension that makes it interesting. I love the characters which of course drew me in immediately. But it is the evolution of the poem that is most fascinating. I guess we all find ourselves there, one way or another. Well done. ~~Tink Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
