margaretmwrites
Change is the ocean bellowing into your stomachThe waves pushing you downNot because you weren’t readyBut because you did not know how to handle itIt’s picking up your bags and walking outWith no plan and no ability to thinkthe ocean does not let you get up right awayChange does not let you get up right awayBut that time that you struggle to standIs the most empowering time of all.
David W. Parsley
Hello Ms. M, welcome to the Forum. I like this piece quite a bit. The bottomless pit that develops in one's stomach when one takes those first decisive (if wobbly!) steps into a changed sphere of destiny, walking out onto the high wire of existence with no supports: well stated, though indirectly, and conducive to the wind-whip clothing of symbol. Well Done, - Dave
badger11
Your poem conveys the immensity, the overwhelming and consuming. Like the ocean bellow. cheers Phil
tonyv
Welcome, Margaret. I like this poem and its presentation. I couldn't care less about the abstraction "change," though I get the concept, and I can even romanticize it. What I feel is: ... It’s picking up your bags and walking out With no plan and no ability to think ... and how the ocean (like "change"): does not let you get up right away. I've enjoyed your inaugural submission. I can feel the undertow. I'm excited that you've joined. JoelJosol
This is only the second poem of Margaret. I like the metaphor of the ocean and change and the struggle described in the poem. Reminds of beach experiences where the site is a surf site. Relatable. Thanks. 1 Quote "Words are not things, and yet they are not non-things either." - Ann Lauterbach
