Kids with Quarterstaves

Behold these two teens,

One a boy,

One a girl:

Swinging

Thrusting

Parrying,

Pushing,

Grunting,

Dodging,

And taunting-

All within an ancient stone ring,

And all whilst using long polearms.

 

Behold the girl:

A fair-skinned brunette,

Her feet bare,

Clad in dark yoga pants

And a green polka-dot swimsuit!

 

Behold the boy:

His feet bare,

Sporting brown hair,

Swarthy skin,

Dressed all in black,

With the logo

Of an obscure rock band

Imprinted on his sleeveless shirt.

 

Behold these two youths:

Exchanging glances-

Glances of determination;

Determination for one

To best the other.

 

Behold the girl-

Behold her pose;

Leaning away

From the boy,

One leg outstretched,

With one hand

Raised over her head,

And the other hand

Holding her polearm,

Pointing it

Towards the boy

As if taunting him

Into striking prematurely.

 

Behold the boy,

Unimpressed,

Standing upright,

Staring at her;

Or rather,

Into her,

Searching for

Am opening

In which

To deliver

That decisive blow!

 

Behold these tow kids:

Displaying their drive,

Displaying their finesse,

Displaying their skills.

 

However,

There’s one

looming question;

will they use

underhanded tactics

to gain an edge

one over the other,

physically or otherwise?

 

Will they trip each other up?

Will they grab each other’s ankles?

Will they throw sand at each other?

Will they draw blood from one another?

Will they attempt to seduce each other-

In order to psyche each other out?

 

In the end,

Will they still be friends,

Or will they be foes,

Their friendship

All but destroyed?

 

That,

Who would pit this lovely girl against this boy? I'll answer that: a worshiper of Satan. Under which politicians' watch is this taking place? I call for their heads on spikes, Vlad-the-Impaler style. I'd put those politicians in a cage--no quarterstaves for them--and I'd give them each a bullet. Believe me, a hollow-point will make a mess of flesh.
