Assays Without Measure
Con/Jur/d, 4/6/2023

A friend says, “We middle-aged mystics
need to stick together!” an involuntary
grimace and he amends, “Middle-aged

much better

an active acknowledgment 
of change, the evolutionary
impulse, the ability to ride 
the times, to see the appearance
of the poison oxygen
as opportunity

an inchoative state
where we

ripen, rot, compost, pupate, create
fertilize, divide, transition, try
fail, transmute, transgress, transcend 
metamorphize and mutate

as needed 
         we were
       once assays 
      without measure

still are

when we remember
our mystery cannot be 
calculated, contained
controlled or proportioned

we just mutate
