Tinker
Robert Frost, Sower Some forty years ago, I saw him stand up next to J.F.K. and heard them call him Poet Laureate. He read aloud from shaking paper held in wrinkled hands. I don't remember any words he spoke, it was his gravel voice that stayed with me. I had an inkling then I witnessed steel and still I hear him now, the harness bells and swinging birches, sounds connecting voice and pen. He planted a seed in me that day, a need to share this vibrant world in verse. --- Judi Van Gorder Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
tonyv
A terrific tribute to Frost, expertly set in blank verse, Tinker! I particularly like the spondee that shows up at the beginning of L8. The language is clear, like that of Frost. I am curious, did you see Frost in person with JFK or on television? He must have already been old, because you mention the shaking paper in/his wrinkled hands. It's evident that Frost has made a lasting impression on you as a writer. Is he your favorite poet? Tinker
Thanks Tony, I saw him on TV, I was 19. I think he died only a year or two later. Yes he is my favorite poet. His work connects with me. ~~Tink Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
Aleksandra
Yes Tinker wonderful tribute to this great poet. From your words we can see that he is one of yours favorites. I like it how this poem ends: Years gone, I read his words, the harness bellsand swinging birches, merging sounds of earth and heaven, planting seeds of need in me. goldenlangur
His magic of words Hi Tink, How well you capture the moment - the poet's presence, his physical appearance, his "gravel, steel" voice and the indelible impression he made on you. These images are quite lovely: ... the harness bellsand swinging birches, merging sounds of earth and heaven, planting seeds of need in me. ----------------------- --- Judi Van Gorder I enjoyed this very much. goldenlangur Quote goldenlangur Even a single enemy is too many and a thousand friends too few - Bhutanese saying. Tinker
Thank you gl, it is funny but I feel invested in this poem. Some of my poems I write and put them in my folder without thinking about them again. This one I feel proud of, I don't know why. I am very glad you too enjoyed it. ~~Tink Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com
lkpmarshall
Thanks for your lovely tribute to Mr. Frost. I just read an article about a book of his journal entries and the controversy surrounding them...so...he was on my mind. Recently read "Birches" too, a favorite. Thanks again. lkm
