The distinguishing feature of this sonnet is that there seems to be a double rhyme pattern occurring simultaneously. This verse form was introduced into US national recognition by Carl Morton, Alabama State Poet Laureate in the 80s. The Beymorlin sonnet appears to be the 1976 creation of the collective effort of American poets Richard Beyer, Carl Morton and Marjorie Lees Linn. The elements of the Beymorlin Sonnet are: written in a quatorzain made up of 3 quatrains and a couplet. metered, primarily iambic pentameter. double rhymed, rhyme scheme abab cdcd efef gg with a separate internal rhyme in the same pattern as the end rhyme. The internal rhyme should occur within the first two syllables of each line. composed with the epiphany arriving slowly after the 2nd quatrain. The Challenge by Ikars J.
