Such poems are still often recited during the first 10 days of the Muslim, Muharram. Later Marsias were written simply to mourn the loss of one close. There are 2 parts to the Marsia, "lamentation and burning of heart". Wikipedia Serving History The elements of the Marsia are: stanzaic, written in any number of sixains made up of a quatrain followed by a couplet. rhymed, rhyme scheme aaaabb ccccdd etc. meter not specified. Soaz (Urdu) is any Persian poem recited in honor of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and the 7th century Battle of Karbala. It's recitation is considered an act of piety and the poem often takes the frame of a Marsia.
