Invented Forms

Monotetra is an invented stanzaic form found at several sites on the internet including Random Writerly Thoughts . It was created by Michael Walker. As you may have guessed from the name the form is mono-rhymed and written in tetrameter.

The defining features of the Monotetra are:

  1. stanzaic, written in any number of quatrains.
  2. metric, iambic tetrameter.
  3. rhymed, each stanza is mono rhymed aaa(A/A) bbb(B/B) ccc(C/C) etc.
  4. L4 is composed with a dimeter refrain that is repeated within the line, like an echo.

Mono y Mono by Judi Van Gorder

    I weary writing mono-rhyme
    and tetrameter trips in time.
I wish to write of grit and grime
with words sublime, with words sublime.
