Tinker
Explore the Craft of WritingArabic PoetryIndian Poetry Mussadas was given credibility as a viable genre of Urdu poetry by 19th century Persian poet Khwaja Altaf Hussain Hali. His famous long poem, Mussadas-e-Hali examines contemporary Muslim society giving direction and hope to Indian Muslims. Consequently, I was unsure whether to categorize this as Indian or Arabic, I chose Arabic because a Persian poet would write in farsi. He broke the mold of traditional forms such as the ghazal, nazm and rubai with the Mussadas. Nor did he adopt the traditional Indian forms. It is written in a simple natural style of writing and the only specific feature that I could find is that it is written in 6 line stanzas (mussadas meaning shape of six). Although information in English is minimal, my research has once again broadened my vision of the power of poetry and its impact around the world.
