Gatekeeper
Hope you can keep this going . . . I've left several poem-a-day trails. The first was haiku, senryu and the like (though I morphed many into something else). It lasted 15 months. There have been other trails, of various forms or purposes, but none so long. I've just started a new one. My goal is a full year. This again, haiku, senryu and the like with tanka and maybe more. At least that is how it has begun. One of the draws for me to haiku and other short forms is the image capture aspect. I have difficult "issues" with photography and do not suffer it well. The image poem is a much better venue for me. I see it all in greater depth. The risk, with a form focus such as this, is that you may, after a while, have trouble escaping it. I did the first time and I expect it will happen again, but now I don't care. If my writing leads me down a rabbit hole . . . so be it. Tinker
Hi Gatekeeper, If you look back in this thread you will see I often have huge gaps in my "haiku a day" trail but the April challenge of "a poem a day" seems to have sparked a renewal. This thread is open to any and all who want to add a haiku or senryu whenever they feel the inclination, so jump in I'd love company. I like reading haiku as much as writing it. For me time is always a factor, but these small poems are moments snatched from time leaving an impression that lingers. I too sometimes use the image I have captured in haiku as the core for a longer poem later then again I sometimes write a haiku as a response to a longer piece. And I always have time to read a haiku, longer poems are often skipped over to read later simply because I don't have the time. haiku journal jvg #59 penned words on paper symbols of imperfection poet's truths revealed Quote ~~ © ~~ Poems by Judi Van Gorder ~~ For permission to use this work you can write to Tinker1111@icloud.com

Tinker
haiku journal jvg #63 (inspired from reading Stars Wheel in Purple by Hilda Doolittle) midnight's purple sky thousands of stars swirl above lone star shows the way Stars Wheel in Purple by Hilda Doolittle Stars wheel in purple, yours is not so rare as Hesperus, nor yet so great a star as bright Aldeboran or Sirius, nor yet the stained and brilliant one of War; stars turn in purple, glorious to the sight; yours is not gracious as the Pleiads are nor as Orion's sapphires, luminous; yet disenchanted, cold, imperious face, when all the others blighted, reel and fall, your star, steel-set, keeps lone and frigid tryst to freighted ships, baffled in wind and blast.
