This genre was liberally used by John Barbour who is known as the father of Scot Poetry. The construction of the frame is at the discretion of the poet. Excerpt from The Bruce by John Barbour. In this piece rhymed couplets are used by Barbour to deliver the thematic genre. That quhile upon a man will smyle And prik him syne ane othir quhile. Bot oft fal charies the fulys thoucht And wiss men's etling 7 cumis nocht Til sic end as thai weyn alway is. A little stane oft, as men say is, May ger weltir ane mekill wane.
