Talking to E.T.

incantation

Test the confluence of
Consciousnesses with bird
Song. Symbol of a cross,
Is he the guest of
Another race who mine
The material of dreams,
A man who
Both drowns and rises
At the same time from
Quantum streams.
Intimate about autumn
Winds praying at
Cemetery gates for immortality.
Does the earth sleep
And roar in the lion's dream
For it's reflection to be restored.
I would summon from
A shell voices of oceans, rivers
Making allusions about
Mankind's fall into reflections
Of a mirror, dreams without
A dreamer.
Light reflected on wings
Caught in the opening
Eyes of spring. Who are
The intermediaries, deliverers
Of divine states.
Planet without a satellite,
Does light survive anywhere
From Earth's first full moon,
Does a messiah require
Two races to make him
Fully whole.

Hi Barry.   This is the same poem as "If I Spoke to E.T." but with added lines.  You probably should have just edited your first post for the addition and minor change to the title.

9 hours ago, incantation said:

Does light survive anywhere
From Earth's first full moon,

I like these added lines.    Something to ponder.

Barry,  I do not believe poetry is a waste of time.  It is how man has recorded events and evolution from the beginning of time.  Earliest man passed on their history through rhyme and repetition before the written word.  Each culture has its own interpretation of how that should be but all civilizations start with telling their stories in a way that can be remembered and passed on.  In today's world, it is a condensation of micro-moments, recorded in words that can be found on backs of used envelopes, in journals, on scratch pads, in notebooks, and in the memory of the internet.  But like all things, there needs to be balance.   A time to read, a time to write, a time to do all of the necessary things of living, and a time to simply be.   But poetry is never a waste of time.  Why do you write?

~~Judi

I Write

I write to stretch myself
                              to be more of me
I write because I like words
I write because I don't have a horse
                              to ride anymore.
I write to surprise myself..
I write to leave a piece of myself
                              for my grandchildren.
I write because I can.

You write a poem like this and ask that question?  Oh my. Listen- It all goes into the fields of human thought..Let us act as if it matters to slice through the mundane inanity of daily life to thrust something real and true out there. Can any know who might be listening? Looking for some sign that this planet can offer something unknown elsewhere?

When Melville wrote Moby Dick, he was shunned as a failure. We have been taught to measure value in material terms. All false models. Do you have anything better to do with your time? Than to write these astounding poems that just might reach out further than the walls that surround us?

A man who
Both drowns and rises
At the same time from
Quantum streams.

This is your poetry. And you. Revel in it. For you are a poet.

Barry, this is about the dozenth time you have posed this question or ones like it.  As noted above, these speculations and creative responses are so full of disruptive vitality, it appears you can't help letting it out like a high-pressure relief valve.  But if you think you are wasting your time, try stopping and see what happens.  Just don't injure yourself and don't stop posting here!  😃

Best,
 - David
